Catalogue Note

"Jackson immersed viewers in an abundance of visual and tactile media... Rivalling the list of materials was the roster of art-historical references (including nods, direct or oblique, to Joseph Beuys, Constantin Brancusi, Francisco Goya, Yayoi Kusama, Richard Prince, Charles Ray, Richard Serra and Andy Warhol). In fact, reference seemed to become medium – staging a contest between the materiality of history and the physical presence of objects." - Melissa Ragona ("Matthew Day Jackson," Frieze Magazine, March 2009)
