The bowl has been extensively oversprayed. The restoration appears to cover a break running from one side of the bowl to the other with each end of the break having a large V shaped piece broken out and restored back in. The restored breaks run through the small iron red landscape panels not through the main panel. There may be some areas of made up loss associated with the breaks; it is impossible to tell. The restoration is older but was well done.

There appear to be very few bowls painted with these scenes. A larger example was in the Mottahedeh Collection, sold in these rooms, January 30, 1985, lot 178; another, of the present size, illustrated by Phillips, p. 79, col. pl. 13 is in the Metropolitan Museum of Art; and a third was sold at Sotheby's, London, February 10, 1970, lot 141 and subsequently in the same rooms, April 20, 1971, lot 177; February 27, 1973, lot 264; and in these rooms, November 18, 1976, lot 86.
