There are two very shallow areas of chipping to the rim edge; one approximately 1/8 inch, the other smaller. There is slight rubbing to the gilding. Otherwise good condition.

The decoration on this service has been linked with the designs of both Cornelis Pronk  - given its similarity to the design of the plume which appears in the border of the 'Arbor' pattern - and with the baroque ornamental decorative schemes of Jean Berian and Daniel Marot, for a discussion of which see Le Corbeiller, 1974, p. 58. A jug and cover in this pattern was in the Collection of Khalil Rizk, sold in these rooms, April 28, 2008, lot 128, where the footnote to the lot discusses the origin of the design in more detail, and cites numerous published examples of the pattern.
