A Chinese Export Armorial Berry Dish and a Plate Circa 1795

with the arms of La Martiniere College.

Plate – has three small chips under the rim edge. The largest is an 1/8 of and inch. There are a few very minor nibbles to the rim edge. The gilding is rubbed on both pieces. Berry dish – there are two quarter inch shallow chips under the rim edge and a half inch chip to the rim edge. One chip is issuing a half inch haircrack and there are two further haircracks to the rim both 1 inch long. There is a large starcrack in the center.

The coat of arms on this lot appears to be the arms of La Martiniere College, as designed by Major General Claude Martin of the British East India Company. This service, dated circa 1795, was probably made for Claude Martin's personal use before his death in 1800.
