The handle is entirely restored and is probably a made up replacement. The blue enamel on the arms is slightly misfired and flaked in places. The gilding is slightly rubbed, and there is considerable flaking ot the green enamel of the flower sprays and the laurel bands around the arms.

Howard, 1974, Vol. I, p. 673, no. U2 illustrates a cider jug from this service. The service was probably made for Lockhart Gordon, a Judge Advocate general in Bengal, who died in Calcutta in 1788.
