Ordered by William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire (1698-1755) for the Dining Room, later the Green Drawing Room
Condition
Fair condition. The painted and gilded decoration is worn and chipped with surface and ingrained dirt. Some minor chips to the carving and edges throughout.

Catalogue Note
The bolection carving between stylised foliate borders is identical to that used on dado, designed by Kent for Lord Leicester, and used in the Library at Holkham Hall, Norfolk.
