in the Louis XVI style with a brêche d'alep marble top above a drawer, the drawer stamped EDWARDS & ROBERTS

Good overall condition. One trailing husk mount to one leg is partially missing. The remaining mounts are slightly tarnished and there is a small chip to one leg. A decorative table.

High quality reproduction furniture by the very best London and French makers enters the collection at the end of the 19th century. There is an interesting description in the Chatsworth Inventory of 1905, p. 99, where in the Yellow Drawing Room the following are recorded, Seven various tables, modern, reproducing the style of LXV, LXVI and Empire, mahogany and marquetry for cards, work and ocassional ditto

Edwards and Roberts were among the foremost English cabinet makers of the second half of the 19th century. Founded in 1845, the firm rapidly expanded and by 1854 were trading as 'Edwards and Roberts, 21 Wardour Street, Antique and Modern Cabinet Makers and Importers of Ancient Furniture'. The firm produced furniture of modern design, as well as copies of 18th and early 19th century English and French pieces.
