Description
- Mahogany, leather and bronze
- 75cm. high, 63.5cm. diameter; 2ft. 5½in., 2ft. 1in.
the circular top with a green tooled leather inset and pierced gallery, with two frieze drawers and two candle-slides, each fluted tapering leg headed by foliate rosettes and ending in brass cappings and castors, the underside inked, 'Hill Street 1950' and some mounts later
Provenance
Almost certainly acquired Spencer Compton Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire (1833-1908) and his wife Louise von Alten (formerly Duchess of Manchester), as part of their refurbishment of Devonshire House and Chatsworth in the 1890's;
Photographed in the Blue Drawing Room, Chatsworth circa 1890
Later at Hill Street, the London residence of the 10th Duke of Devonshire.

Condition
Good overall condition though the leather writing surface is distressed and there are separations between the top and the pierced gallery.
