Description
- Ebony, tortoishell and brass
- 106.5cm. high, 209cm. wide, 44cm. deep; 3ft. 6in., 6ft. 10¼in., 1ft. 5½in.
each rounded corner applied with trophies and conforming sabot, the brass strung central door between side doors with foliate rosettes to each corner, on squat ogee feet, with a partial printed paper label to the reverse probably reading Devonshire House 1920
Provenance
Almost certainly acquired by Spencer Compton Cavendish, 8th Duke of Devonshire (1833-1908) and his wife Louise von Alten (formerly Duchess of Manchester) as part of their refurbishment of Devonshire House in the 1890s, positioned in The Red Drawing Room and subsequently in The Green Drawing Room;
Removed to Chatsworth circa 1920 and thereafter positioned in the State Dining Room.

Condition
Very good overall condition. Some minor old scratches and marks to the top. The inlay is in good condition with very few losses or signs of springing. Some losses to the applied beaded decoration around the base. Very decorative.
