oval, the lid printed with a view of Lovers Leap, a cliff near Stoney Middleton in the Derbyshire Dales, and inscribed: A Trifle from Buxton, pale blue base

Lid restored top left corner and lacquered overall; interior of lid with replacement mirror. The sheer cliff in Middleton Dale known as Lover's Leap acquired its name from the desperate exploit of a jilted village girl called Hannah Baddeley who flung herself from its summit. Fortunately she was saved by her voluminous skirts which acted as a parachute.
