Certainly William Spencer Cavendish, 6th Duke of Devonshire (1790-1858), recorded at Chiswick shortly after his death, but possibly acquired earlier.

Overall the condition is good. There is some dirt and wear to the surface consistent with age, including a few minor nicks and scratches. Throughout the surface there are areas where the patina has been worn away, particularly on the figure's left leg, thigh, arm and hand, on the figure's thorax, on the figure's wings, on the undersides of the figure's hands, on the orb and on the middle section and the edges of the base. There are minor dark spots across the surface, particularly on the top of the base. There are two small holes in the helmet above the figure's ears which may have supported a visor or headdress, now lost.
