A George III parcel-gilt and simulated rosewood polescreen circa 1790

with a faded velvet adjustable screen decorated with foliate bouquet, the triform base with scalloped ring

Ordered by William Cavendish, 5^th Duke of Devonshire (1748-1811), possibly for the new wing at Chiswick.

Fair condition with many signs of wear and surface dirt. The velvet panel is very worn and faded, with some woodworm holes. The lower brass bracket to the rear of the panel is broken with further chip marks and scratches throughout.
