Condition
The object is in good overall condition. The case has a paper lining which is frayed in places. The interior of the case has some water marks around the corners and surface dirt. The ship itself appears to be in good condition, though the mast head with the pendant is damaged, and there are 11 loose or detatched cannon. The case was not opened and the ship has not been inspected.

Catalogue Note
The history of the model and the history of the vessel are unknown. The Cavendish family had no association with the Navy until the 5th Duke's illegtimate son Lord Augustus Clifford (1788-1877) entered the Service in 1800. His career was a credit to his family becoming First Admiral of the Blue and then of the Red.
