Description
- 57cm. high, 91cm. wide; 1ft. 10½in., 2ft. 11¾in.
centered by conjoined semi-circular apertures, the upper basket with four bars, with raised neo-classical decoration together with further cast iron fire surround components including curved and flat plates (7)
Condition
Probably ordered by William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire (1748-1811) as part of his remodelling of Devonshire House or Chatsworth 1770-1790.
The fire grate front is in fair condition with pitting and light rust to the surface. The other items all have surface rust with some flaking in areas.
