- 91cm. high, 137cm. wide, 70cm. deep; 3ft., 4ft. 6in., 2ft. 3½in.
with double bowl apertures, splash back, a central frieze drawer, a shaped undertier, on square chamfered legs

Condition
Probably ordered by William Cavendish, 5th Duke of Devonshire (1748-1811)
Good solid condition. The splash back is possibly replaced. The top has many old marks, stains and scratches with further light marks and scratches throughout.

It is possible that this washstand formed part of a large commission for new furniture that the 5th Duke placed with J. & W. Brailsford of Sheffield in 1784. In all, twelve washstands are recorded in an invoice that came to a total of £604. 19. 8. This amount was disputed by the Duke resulting in a reduction to the bill of £23. 14. 6.
