Catalogue Note

Robert Boyle (1627 – 1681) the celebrated natural philosopher and chemist, was a distant relative of the Duke of Devonshire and his great great nephew the 3rd Earl of Burlington. The original painting by Kerseboom was bequeathed by the Royal Society of which he was a founding member.
