A set of three George III upholstered and mahogany chairs mid 18th century

two with red buttoned upholstery and one with faux leather covering, each with a shaped back and square-chamfered legs united by H-shape stretcher with rear outswept legs (3)

Probably acquired by William Cavendish, 4th Duke of Devonshire (1720-1764)

Chatsworth Inventory, 1792, p. 11, possibly one of these chairs is that described in the Taffity Room one mahogany chair covered in crimson or part of six small mahogany Chairs, stuff'd backs and seat covered with Crimson Damask that were recorded on p. 22 in the Room adjoining the MaryQueen of Scots Apartments.

All three chairs are in need of reupholstering. One chair has a damaged and detached front seat rail and damage to the H stretcher. Some water stains to the feet. Another chair is missing three of its brackets to the underside of the seat rail. All of the chairs have wood worm holes and have old marks and scratches consistent with age.
