with an outer egg and dart border, the bar grate with knopped central bar and surmounted by obelisks

Condition

Ordered by William Spencer Cavendish, 6th Duke of Devonshire (1790-1857) as part of the remodelling of Devonshire House 1815-20 for an unidentified room. Generally in good condition. The brass egg and dart border is tarnished and the steel is pitted and has been painted with a thin layer of black paint. One moulded upright is lacking on the right hand side. The aperture is lacking a hood. Of fine quality.
