- overall 232cm. high, 149.5cm. wide; door 225.5cm. high, 111.5cm. wide; 7ft. 7¼in., 4ft. 10¾in., 7ft. 4¾in., 3ft. 9½in.
the six panelled door centred on a bead and acanthus carved divide, each fielded panel with ribbon tied border and egg and dart decoration, the key hole covered with a finely chased gilt brass leaf cast escutcheon, the reverse of simpler form, including a white painted door surround with acanthus, line and bead and reel decoration, each upright with a skirting block, one of these blocks of shorter form, the door with a label printed His Grace, The Duke of Devonshire, K.G., Chesterfield (LM) and by hand Door leading from Staircase Hall to Lift the three surround components with a plain label inscribed Staircase Hall to Lift Lobby and the skirting blocks with Staircase Hall to Lift Lobby in pencil (6)
Condition
The door is in very good condition, with some stains and signs of light wear throughout. The top corner opposite the hinges has been damaged and has a section missing. There is a small section of the central moulding missing at the bottom of one side. The frame is in good but house worn condition with ingrained dirt, flaking paint, and minor chips throughout.
