Description

  • 432cm. high, 193cm. wide; 14ft. 2in., 6ft. 4in.
the outside border with stylised foliage surrounding a running pattern of bell flowers within a vitruvian scoll before further borders of bead, reel and acathus, the jambs ending in a plain surface to allow for panelling, inscribed in blue chalk pink Room / Boudoir Coffering, the upper part altered

Provenance

Ordered by William Cavendish, 3rd Duke of Devonshire (1698-1755). This monumental surround was positioned around a huge window in the Pink Drawing Room, opposite this window was positioned a series of mirrors fitted within a large Neo-Classical architectural cabinet.

Condition

Good general condition, though there is a build up of surface dirt and a great deal of chipping to the painted decoration. The top section has been reduced in length. Dismantled into three sections.
