Description
- Mahogany and pine
- the door 223.5cm. high, 113.5cm. wide and with the surround 270.5cm. high and 166cm. wide; 7ft. 3in., 3ft. 7in., 8ft. 9in., 5ft. 4in.
the six panelled door centred on a bead and acanthus carved divide, each fielded panel with ribbon tied border and egg and dart decoration, the key hole covered with a finely chased gilt brass leaf cast escutcheon, the reverse of simpler form, together with the original parcel gilt and grained door surround surmounted by a pediment with borders of egg and dart and dentil decoration above a cushion carved apron of floral scroll work and cornucopia with grapes, the jambs with acanthus, line and bead and reel decoration. The door with a label printed His Grace, The Duke of Devonshire, K.G., Chesterfield (LM) and by hand Dining Room Main Staircase the surround components with printed label for Holland & Hannen and Cubitts Ltd, 258 Grays Inn Road, W.C.L and by hand Dining Room Right Of Fireplace (6)

Condition
Fair condition. The surface polish to the door is worn in places and has some stains. There is a section of gilded moulding missing to the top left panel. The door handle is missing and there are cracks around this area. The door surround has wear and surface dirt and chips throughout.
