Description

  • larger 137cm. high, 153cm. wide; 4ft. 6in., 5ft., smaller 85cm. high, 125cm. wide; 2ft. 9½in., 4ft. 1in.
five, in the manner of William Kent, with central scrolled cartouche and hung with garlands of fruit and flowers clasped at the corners by knotted ribbons (5)

Provenance

Ordered by William Spencer Cavendish, 6th Duke of Devonshire (1790-1858) as part of his transformation of the East Drawing Room to the Dining Room.

Condition

Fair condition. All of the crests have significant damage and losses. There are further chips and losses throughout. There has been a build up of dust and dirt. Some fragmentation throughout. First hand inspection is recommended. The two smaller would have been positioned between the windows and the three larger above doors.
