Description

  • wool flat weave
  • approximately 267 by 227cm., 8ft. 9in., 7ft. 5in.
woven with central `c'-scroll surrounded cartouche with pale yellow scrollwork centred with floral bouquet, with a brown and gold scrollwork surround, all enclosed by borders with floral trails on cream ground, the outer border with stylised guilloche design of gold on brown, with dark brown outer guard, lining marked with ink initials D.D.

Condition

Lined. Outer guard turned under on two sides. Wear to the two visible, with light coloured warps showing through in some areas. Generally dirty and faded. Black stain to guilloche border along one side. Visible lighter line across width, to sides without the dark guard, visible as lighter line. Section of it split and hand repaired.
