Description
- Wood, lacquer, mother of pearl and hardstones
- 21cm. high, 44cm. wide, 25.5cm. deep; 8¼in., 1ft. 5½in., 10in.
with chinoiserie decoration inlaid with mother-of-pearl and hardstones, the detached lid with a shaped silvered-brass hasp and plate
Provenance
A wedding present to Lord Hartington, Edward Cavendish (later 10th Duke of Devonshire) and his wife Lady Mary Gascoygne-Cecil.
Condition
Fair condition with much wear and chipping throughout. The hinges have become detached from the lid and there are significant chips to the corners of the lid. Some losses to the decoration especially around the edges, corners and to one side beneath the handle.
