Description

  • 120cm. high, 130.5cm. wide; 3ft. 11in., 4ft. 3¼in.
the outer border with a running pattern of bell flowers around a canted interior, each side mounted with applique in the former of batons arranged with vine leaves and stylised flowers, the inner border with a running pattern of stylised lotus petals, the grate contained within a plain moulded border and surmounted by obelisks

Condition

Fair condition with light rust staining and verdigris throughout. The left hand gilt bronze appliqué is misshapen and missing its upper part. The right hand appliqué is also misshapen, broken into two sections and with some fragmentation. Both have wear to the gilding. The grate is extensively rusted and has damage to the fire brick.

The ornament of this register grate takes up the design of the chimneypiece itself with inclusion of vines and stylised foliage reflecting the original use of the room as a dining room.
