Description
- silk, metal
- approximately 6ft. 2in. by 4ft. 3in. (1.88 by 1.29m.)
after a design by Zareh Penyamin
Condition
Silk pile is generally low to knotheads overall; oxidation to metal thread throughout, now grey. Small 1 cm slit into palmette in lower half of field, another similar slit above cartouche in prayer niche; scattered small slits (1/2 x 1/2cm loss in one) and repaired slits overall indicating that foundation is somewhat brittle and fragile.
Lower left corner rather chewed; sides with fraying and losses into outer guard stripes. Cloth bands sewn to reverse of sides to keep from curling under due to the density of the weave and weight of metal in the outer guard border.
Ends with losses into end guard stripes.
Will enhance with careful cleaning and conservation.
