Folio (20 x 15 in.; 510 x 380 mm). 18 handcolored maps (of which 2 folding, 14 double-page), text and maps guarded; short tears to lower left corner of title-page, guards foxed throughout, maps severely browned, several long center fold splits affecting map of the West Indies, Jamaica, Grenada, and Barbados, 2 internal fold tears on second folding map. Contemporary half red roan over brown marbled boards; corners perished, upper board detached.

Catalogue Note

The third edition of a smaller version of Jefferys' West-India Atlas. The present work consisted of the same text, a general chart of the islands, and the same eighteen charts of the islands that appear in the larger version. West-India Islands was first published by Sayer and Bennet in 1775 with seventeen maps, and in 1795 and 1996 by Sayer's successors, Laurie and Whittle, with eighteen maps. The present edition is scarce, OCLC locates only one copy in the National Maritime Museum Library.
