Engraved vellum broadside document (14 x 10 in.; 355 x 253 mm) signed ("Z. Taylor") and countersigned by the Secretary State ("J.M. Clayton"), unaccomplished all but the number of the document ("115, one hundred and fifteen"), [Washington, D. C.], n.d. [but after 6 March 1849], being a ship's passport; folded in half, very nicely preserved. Together with: Printed document (10 x 9 in.; 255 x 227 mm) signed ("Z. Taylor") and countersigned by the Secretary of State ("J. M. Clayton") and one other official, [Washington, D. C.], 17 June 1850, being a ship's passport in English and Dutch only for the Champion of New Bedford, Massachusetts, commanded by Joseph Bailey and bound for the Pacific Ocean with [?utensils] for a whaling voyage; mounted on card and cropped along the left and right margins, possibly with the loss of the passport in 2 other languages, mounted, a few spots.
