Engraved vellum broadside document (18 x 12 in.; 450 x 300 mm), signed ("John Adams"),  [Philadelphia], 28 November 1797, being an accomplished ship's passport for the schooner Argo of Baltimore commanded by Bartholomew Byres, countersigned by the Secretary of State ("Timothy Pickering") and one other official, embossed seal of the United States affixed in lower left corner, docketed on the verso; folded, 2 holes (one affecting 3 words) repaired, seal nicely preserved.
