containing medical prescriptions (including treatments for burns, indigestion, rheumatism, toothache, insect stings and other minor ailments ), culinary recipes (especially for confectionery and preserves), preparations for cleaning plate, linen and furniture, gardening tips and cosmetic treatments (such as hair dyes, face creams, perfume, etc.); with two twentieth-century volumes from Barton Lodge, Cerne Abbas, containing an index of recipes;



over 1000 pages, various sizes, most volumes with index and recipes loosely inserted or pasted in, some with contemporary ownership inscriptions, chiefly post-1830, in various bindings (contemporary half morocco, vellum, sheep, diced russia and wrappers), some staining, some loose pages or gatherings, covers somewhat worn
