Catalogue Note
L'Herculanum antique fut redécouvert par hasard en 1709 et les fouilles régulières débutèrent en 1738 à la demande du roi des Deux-Siciles. Le texte de Moussinot est un des premiers ouvrages en français sur ce site.
Charles de Brosses voyagea en Italie en 1739-1740 et put alors assister à ces fouilles. Ce texte rend compte de ses premières impressions face à cette fabuleuse trouvaille.
