Catalogue Note
Le titre porte la date de 1554, et le colophon à celle de 1558 donnent une idée du temps qu'il fallut pour l'impression de cette magnifique édition scientifique. Marcel II (Cervini), à qui Salviani voulait dédier son oeuvre était mort lorsque l'impression fut achevée, et le titre qui porte ses armes ne fut pas regravé.
Brunet (V, 102), auquel Mortimer se réfère, cite un tirage des planches seules comprenant le titre daté 1554 et un «avis en italien d'Antonio Lafrery, graveur des planches, daté di Roma il giorno 20 di marzo 1559».
