Catalogue Note
Copie manuscrite du XVIIe siècle dont il existe plusieurs autres copies au titre variable (voir Olschki, 17981 et 17982). Une édition "insuffisante" fut publiée en 1837.
Cette Histoire est due à Patrizio de' Rossi qui utilisa les notes de son arrière-grand-père Francesco, peintre et élève d'Andrea del Sarto. Le Sac de Rome fut un événement d'une importance comparable à la chute de Constantinople (1453) qui inspira durablement les artistes contemporains.
Cet exemplaire a appartenu au célèbre libraire et relieur anglais Thomas Payne (1719-1799) dont la signature figure au premier contre-plat.
