« En 1762, les Lapides Capitolini forment une sorte d'introduction épigraphique à cette vaste enquête (les Antichità Romane) ; c'est une simple publication de documents, mais l'histoire romaine, de la fondation de Rome au règne de Tibère, y revit en un large tableau par les Fastes Consulaires. » (Focillon). La grande planche représente les grands fragments de ces Fastes entourés de quelques sculptures, dont la Louve.
