Description

de forme archaïsante hu avec un corps ovoïde surmonté d'un court col droit, le pourtour ciselé à décor de grues et de symboles auspicieux dans des nuages, chaque face sertie de cartouches encadrés d'un oiseau ho-o déployant ses ailes, incrustés en iroe takazogan sur un fond de shibuichi, de quatre des seize rakans de la mytologie bouddhiste, sur le premier Handaka Sonja observant un dragon s'échappant de son bol à aumônes, la scène se poursuivant sur le second vase où Fatmo tenant le sistre regarde le dragon au loin, sur l'autre face Hattara Sonja s'adresse à son tigre sous le regard amusé de Kari Sonja accoudé à une table sur laquelle est ouvert un rouleau, un panneau signé Hirayama Shizen et cachet Higashiyama, sur les autres le cachet Yoshitoshi

Condition

Both vases are in good condition with the exception of some wear in areas to the inlaid panels, some discolouration to the patina of the robe of Hattara Sonja (rakan with a tiger), a dent and some scratches on the shakudo alms bowl of Handaka Sonja (showing on the illustration in the catalogue). Some wear and light pitting to the surface inside, but generally good.
