This pair of bowls is unusual for its elegant quatre-lobed form with four extra smaller lobes at the corners - a shape rarely seen on glasswares made in the Imperial Palace Workshop. No similar example with a wheel-cut Qianlong reign mark appears to be recorded, although a quatre-lobed blue glass bowl of similar size but lacking the small extra lobes, attributed to the 18th century, was offered in our Hong Kong rooms, 5th November 1996, lot 970. See also an aubergine coloured hexa-lobed glass bowl with a Qianlong four-character wheel-cut mark within a double square on the recessed base, from the collection of Edward T. Chow, included in the exhibition One Man's Taste: Treasures from the Lakeside Pavilion, Collection Baur, Geneva, 1988, cat. no. G4 ; and an unmarked seven-lobed blue glass bowl attributed to Qianlong's reign sold in our New York rooms, 18/19th April 1989, lot 168.
