Condition

Good condition. The actual colour of the teapot ground is more turquoise, somewhat less blue, than the illustration would suggest in the catalogue.

Catalogue Note

Compare a covered teapot of similar form and size, also with a Daoguang six-character reign mark and of the period, overall decorated with lotus blooms on a turquoise-ground, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 2nd November 1999, lot 572 ; and another of slightly larger size but of similar turquoise-ground decoration, sold in our London rooms, 30th March 1978, lot 219.

The present teapot appears to be inspired by Qianlong period teapots of similar shape ; see one finely painted with gilt-bordered panels showing a landscape scene against a similar truquoise-ground, sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 31st October 1974, lot 316, and subsequently in the K.S. Lo collection, illustrated in Hugh Moss, By Imperial Command, Hong Kong, 1976, pl. 86.
