Description

le corps hémisphérique, les bords allant en s'affinant, sur un haut pied ceint d'un large anneau en relief, le pourtour uniformément recouvert d'une belle glaçure monochrome sang-de-boeuf, l'intérieur et la base émaillés blanc, marque zhuanshu Yongzheng en bleu sous couverte

Formerly in the collection of the Danish Ambassador of London, 1968-1973.

Condition

A good overall condition with three minor firing faults to the rim and some fritting to the footrim.

Catalogue Note

A pair of Yongzheng mark and period stembowls of this type, from the collection of Edward T. Chow, was sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 25th November 1980, lot 65, one of which is illustrated in Chinese Porcelain the S.C. Ko Tianminlou Collection, Hong Kong, 1987, pl. 126. Ibid., p. 206, it is noted that vessels from this group were produced to be bestowed to Mongolian nobles as gifts by the Qing court. Another similar stembowl was included in the exhibition Ch'ing Porcelain from the Wah Kwong Collection, The Art Gallery, Chinese University of Hong Kong, Hong Kong, 1973, cat. no. 4 ; one was sold in our London rooms, 12th June 2003, lot 187 ; and another in our Hong Kong rooms, 15th May 1990, lot 76.
