Catalogue Note
This bowl is an example of the technical proficiency of craftsmen working in the Lacquer Workshops of the Zaobanchu (Imperial Palace Workshop) located in the Forbbiden City.
A closely related example also inscribed with the characters da long bao wan in the Qing Court collection, and still in Beijing, is illustrated together with a carved lacquer cupstand in The Complete Collection of Treasures of the Palace Museum. Lacquer Wares of the Qing Dynasty, Hong Kong, 2006, pl. 12. Compare also bowls with gilt-metal lined rims ; such as a slightly larger pair, Qianlong mark and period, sold at Christie's Hong Kong, 29th November 2005, lot 1564 and an unmarked bowl sold in our Hong Kong rooms, 5th November 1996, lot 975. An identical red carved bowl with its cupstand and with the same liulong baowan mark was solded in our Hong Kong rooms, 8 October 2009, lot 1647.
