Description

  • Elias van den Broeck
  • a forest floor still life with a snake, a snail, a grasshopper, a worm, a lizard, a bird's nest and toadstools
  • oil on canvas
Oil on canvas

Provenance

Anonymous sale, Amsterdam, Christie's, 19 November 1988, lot 212, where purchased by the present owners.

Condition

The canvas has a tight relining. The paint surface is stable but rather flattened and under a discoloured and uneven varnish. No major damages are visible to the naked eye though some minor frame abrasion can be seen along the left and upper edge. Inspection under UV light is inconclusive due to the thick reflective varnish. A few scattered retouchings do flouresce. Offered in a later carved and gilt wood frame in good condition.
