Description

  • Ceramic
comprising three square vases and covers and two of gu-form, painted with panels of peony, prunus and chrysanthemum

Provenance

Acquired from Vanderven & Vanderven at Grosvenor House

Condition

The three square vases of the garniture are in reasonably good condition, however one vase has an area of restoration to two sides of the rim, another vase has a (2.5cm. x 9mm.) chip to the interior rim and another smaller (6mm. x 4mm.) to the exterior rim, the other vase has two small areas of glaze crawling to the foot (4mm. x 2mm. and 3mm. x 2mm.). Both the gu-shaped vases have restoration to the rim, both in two places that have discoloured, one of the vases has a recent break to one corner and the piece is missing (4.5cm. long). There is a 2cm. firing crack running vertically to the same vase. Both of these vases have some fritting to the rim. All the vases in this garniture have some pin hole size burst bubbles to the glaze and some small iron spots. The colour match between the five is reasonably good.
