Condition
An unusual and very decorative piece in good, original but house-worn condition. The domed lid has warped a little and now undulates across the top. There are splits coming in from the left and right hand edges. The period decoration is detailed and has been finely applied but has faded in sections or has darkened with age. There are some old scratches and score marks and some losses especially to the edges and the corners. There are a few old wood worm holes throughout the chest. The brass handles, escutcheon and iron hinges are all original. The stand is authentic but has some old repairs including - two spliced legs, one re-tipped foot, a repaired break to the top of one leg and some replaced sections of veneer to the frieze; all honest restorations of the type likely to be found on a stand of this age. There are some losses to the moulding around the top of the stand.
