Two needlework panels, North European late 18th century and early 20th century

including a large square format gros and petit point needlework panel, late 18th century and later, worked in polychrome silks and wools with a central cartouche enclosing a petit point shepherdess in a landscape setting, surrounded by gros point large flowers on a mottled blue and cream ground, mounted within a gilt edged black wooden and glazed  frame (61cm. high, 63cm. wide) illustrated previous page; and a smaller oval format appliqué wool and embroidered treescape, early 20th century, worked with a large oak tree with perched owl, and incorporating rabbits and hares at the base of the tree and leaping in the hilly foreground, on plain wool ground, within a gessoed black wooden, beaded and glazed frame (44cm. high, 39cm. wide) not illustrated

The 18th century needlework acquired from O.F. Wilson

Square needlework panel: Small areas of later repair, for example to figure and to flowers and surrounding cream ground top left corner. Above the cartouche in the cream ground, there is a small area where threads pulled and a little loose. Otherwise stable condition, with balanced colour. Oval applique panel: Distressed frame, with losses and cracks. Hoop at top of frame for hanging. Frame needs some attention and Wool dirty and lacking nap in areas. Charming subject.
