  • Ink & Gold on Vellum
text: surah al-inshirah (XCIV), verses 1-8, the whole surah
Arabic manuscript on vellum, 7 lines to the page written in bold kufic script in brown ink, vocalisation marked by red and green dots, verses separated by gold rosettes, fifth verse marked by large floral roundel enclosing the word khamsa, the verso with a final line illumination consisting of a large triangular cluster of gold dots and a leafy terminal

Condition

In reasonably good overall condition, some small stains, and minor holes where the ink has burned through the vellum, occasional worm holes, nibbles to leaf edges, wide outer margins, ink strong on the recto, verso rubbed, as viewed.
