Persian manuscript on paper, 4 lines of muhaqqaq script written in black ink, with two square panels at the top right and bottom right each enclosing a line of gold muhaqqaq, ruled in gold, with gold floral and roundel illumination laid down on a marbled album page, framed

Condition

In very good overall condition, some creasing to the central panel, later 18th/19th century gold illumination to the bottom left panel, ink strong, clear and legible, as viewed.

Catalogue Note

This calligraphic panel is attributable to one of the great Ottoman calligraphers of the sixteenth century, Ahmet Al-Karahisari. A comparble calligraphy by Karahisari, displaying a remarkably similar Bismillah in Muhaqqaq script is in the Tareq Rajab Museum (see N. Safwat, The Harmony of Letters, Singapore, 1997, pp.54-55).
