Catalogue Note

This commentary on the Qu'ran belongs to an interesting group of medieval Islamic manuscripts written in a rigorous and attractive 'Andalusian' hand, which originate from either Spain or the Maghrib. A related manuscript (a theological treatise written in Fez) was sold in these rooms 27 April 1994, lot 46, whilst another similar manuscript (Al-Ghazali's Ihya 'Ulum Al-Din) was included in these rooms 7 October 2009, as lot 14. The latter manuscript shared with the present work a similar format on luxurious thick buff paper and a fine hand.
