of deep rounded form with gently concave sides supported on a shallow narrow foot, decorated in green and black with a pair of monumental palmettes flanking a central kufic inscription, the rim with hemispherical motifs

The distinctive foliate kufic inscription and green and black glaze are seen on a number of fragments in the Benaki Museum Athens, illustrated in Philon 1980, pp.54-55, Plate Va. A tenth-century bowl from Egypt illustrated in Grube 1976, p.117 displays the same central stylised kufic inscription
