Close inspection reveals foxing scattered towards the centre of the work and visible under ultra-violet light; these have been slightly retouched with dry pigment to give a homogeneous surface.

"Tutto questo processo di coscienza pittorica, senza soggetto, è tuttavia basato su un'entità: la luce. Questa illumina i rilievi, crea ombre e riflessi, appiattisce ed esalta le superfici, dà quindi esistenza al dipinto. Di conseguenza, non poteva mancare un avvicendarsi graduale di Castellani al suo splendore, attraverso il colore assoluto, il bianco che irradia, scivola e unifica le superfici e al tempo stesso funziona da registro di piena libertà".
