Description

  • An Etruscan Terracotta Figure of Herakles wearing the Nemean Lion Skin
  • Terracotta
  • Height 22 3/4 in. 57.8 cm.
derived from the Herakles Farnese, standing by a tree trunk with his weight on the right leg and his right hand formerly resting on his hip, his head turned to his left, a fragmentary club resting under his left arm, and wearing a lion skin knotted on his chest, draped over his head, and falling down over his back, a line of finely modeled hair along the spine of the lion skin.

Condition

Arms, club, and big toes missing, nose chipped, chipping in drapery, lion’s ears and teeth fragmentary, note two large chips on tree trunk. Restoration and repair on proper lower left leg.
