Condition

The Three-master Ship Moored off the Coast The colours are well preserved in this watercolour, although there has been very minor fading overall. The sheet has slightly darkened as a result of exposure to the light. There is a thin brown line around the extreme edges of the sheet. The work has not been examined out of its frame. Study of St. Stephen's Church The pencil remains fresh. There is some very minor surface dirt, together with a few soft and minor creases. At the bottom left hand corner there is an area of paper loss. At the bottom left and right of the sheet there are the remains of old hinges. The work is not laid down. The Tower of London The pencil remains strong. There are minor areas of surface dirt to the sheet. There are several pronounced creases. The work has not been laid down. Study of Boats: The pencil remains strong. The sheet has slightly darkened and there are areas of surface dirt. The work has not been laid down. View of London: The pencil remains strong. There are occasional very minor creases, particularly to the left of the composition. It is also possible to see discolouration associated with the hinges at the extreme top of the sheet. The work has not been laid down. Study of a Bridge: The pencil remains strong. There are minor areas of surface dirt to the sheet. At the bottom right had corner there is an area of paper loss. It is possible to see discolouration associated with the hinges at the extreme top of the sheet. The work has not been laid down. The Battle: The medium remains strong. There is some creasing to the sheet and some staining verso (this is possibly associated with previous mounting). The work has not been examined out of its frame. Westminster Hospital The etching is strong and rich. There is some minor mount-staining to the margins. The work has not been examined out of its frame.
